Coordinating Council for Human Rights in Bangladesh-CCHRB

Evolution

Before starting the organizational mission vision aims objectives and activities we must know about its evolution. That Bangladesh Manobadhikar Samonnoy Parishod (Coordinating Council for Human Rights in Bangladesh-CCHRB) popularly known in Bangla acronym as ‘Bamasop’ a human rights alliance in the country founded in 1986 when the human rights movement is at a very nascent stage. Under the leadership of Renowned Human Rights Activist Late Father R W Timm, CSC & Late Shafiqul Haque Chawdhury(ASA) with late Jeffry S Periera (CARITAS}, Late Ataur Rahman(GUP), Late Barrister Mozammel Haque Bhuiyan (IDR), late Br. D Souza, CSC started the concept of founding the alliance in late 1983. After few events & meeting it came to a formation. 

Caritas, ASA,
BRAC,BSEHR,ARBAN,CJP, BICPAJ,CAMPE,TMSS,RDRS,IDR,BANCHTE SHEKHA are amongst the 20-25 alliance members. Gradually the number stands now around to three hundred both national local NGOs/CSOs of the country are affiliated as general members in the the network. Keeping the prime objectives of founding this alliance Human Rights Awareness & Good Governance issues, Democracy development, Building defenders network, Civic Awareness & Election Monitoring, Rule of law , Fact finding & Research, publication & information dissemination  are embedded in its legal principal document. It is the pioneer non government organization in election monitoring program first started in the Upazila Election 1990 during the autocratic regime. The BAMASP leadership taken the issue into consideration to intervene in the democratic process by involving its alliance members and conducted voter awareness &  election monitoring activities as one priority. Then BAMASP got its legal status from the Department of Social Service, NGO affairs Bureau and as election observer organization by the Bangladesh Election Commission.
